Just because you have Photoshop doesn’t mean your a designer.

Ok ok – I admit it, this has been bugging me for a while now. I try to stay optimistic, try and be the nice guy at the office. The one thing that turn’s me off is working with some people who know absolutely zilch about designing and assume because they have a computer, photoshop, and an idea they suddenly move to the realm of design virtuoso. Nothing can be further from reality. I look t it tis way – yes to be a designer you do need a graphics suite, and a decent computer setup. One element you cannot buy and one that does not get installed on your hard drive is talent. And by talent I am not referring to the typical definition of the term. I guess what I am really saying is a true designer has what it takes – a good eye, a knack for composition, and an imagination that not only has untapped ideas, but a brain that has the ability to fuse those resources with a logical design approach, and the most important aspect of them all, and what separates artist from computer user – the passion for art in and of itself and the unwavering need to communicate through artistic means (also known as “passion”) – this is what a designer is and what a designer does. It’s not about Adobe, Macs, showing off, or impressing others – it’s about self-fulfillment, self realization and evolving into a better communicator.
