Snow Leopard Update.

A while back I wrote a post about a bad experience I had post Snow Leopard (SL) installation – and giving into my emotions. I let those emotions get the best of me and it laid the groundwork for the ill conceived notion that SL was a not so hot update from Cupertino. I admit I was wrong. And after reconsidering my emotional, and not so professional opinion I have decided to give SL a second chance – and I’m happy to say the results have been excellent. I guess my biggest mistake was choosing the “upgrade” option from the installation disk – my thinking for this choice was I would be able to retain my rather large OS X custom configuration without needing to spend a weekend reinstalling apps, plugins, and everything in between – well the initial bad judgement has forced me down the very route I was trying to avoid. I’d say the sure-fire way to install SL, for me, was to do a fresh HDD reformat and installation. The key for me was to have everything ready to go on my external 500GB LaCIE HDD – I had all my apps in one directory, all my CS4  install files, brushes, plugins etc ready to go in another directory and so on. This made the “unfun” task of spending a weekend reinstalling pretty tolerable. Should I have not neglected the easy hard drive clone on my external – absolutely, but I got lazy about backs ups and paid a small price in personal time – I guess it happens to all of us sooner or later. The end result is my system back to how I like it configured and a reinvigorated attitude about backing a clone up – now it’s time to get some coffee and enjoy the weekend producing music in Logic Studio =)
