Creativity getting a major boost via multi-core dreams
It’s truly phenominal how fast technology moves. And it is bacause of this velocity that every time a speed bump and multi-core architecture hurdle is over-come that the creative user’s arsenal is also affected – and this is a GOOD thing. Think about this, when the duo-core platform was introduced a few years back we saw immediate results in the creative world – users of applications from companies such as Adobe saw immediate results in the ability of raw processing power offering fast render times, real-time calculation and true multi-tasking environments. The days of opening and closing apps because of hardware constraints are long gone – working is the creative suite is truly creative when you can switch between 3,4,5 apps without the arduous task of saving, closing, opening, saving closing etc. As a professional graphic designer myself I saw the ability of Photoshop to handle huge file sets (300-600MB and 200-1000 layers) and migrating these files across apps without a hitch – wow!, was it only 3 years ago that this was a dream?. What does this all mean – to say the least and without sounding too cliche’ it means imagination is truly the limit. Yes, we always had the power to really do what we can now, but now we can realize our ideas in record time with instant gratification. And now that hexacore processors (Intel i7 980x) are here it will continually let our creativity evolve in-synch with the hardware itself – perhaps this is what “parallel processing” really means?!
