Don’t Forget The Passion
Many of us are married to our careers. Day in and day out we find ourselves at work, more and more it seems like. We get along with some workers, some we could care less for. In the design and production worlds there is one constant that you must be very good pals with and this is passion. Sitting at a Mac and designing is the easy part. Taking abstract ideas from the boss and turning it into a tangible is cake. But then we get those long drawn out days where the minutes seem like hours and imaginationland seems closed for a while. We search the mental landscape high and low yet the inspiration, ideas, and passion just aren’t around. This is normal. It’s naive to think a design inspiration can be pulled out of the air like a rain drop on a stormy day. It just doesn’t happen like that. A quick solution I try is a kind of mental exercise I use if I am struggling for new ideas. Think about why you got into the field you happen to be in – why did you get into it in the first place – I’d argue the majority as saying it was for “the passion”. Think about that spark that gets you feeling good and excited – the unknown prospects of making your mark on the world through artistic vision – that’s passion and its a main ingredient.
