The Apple -vs- Adobe War Of Words – Justified?

At first I considered Steve Job’s “spat” at Adobe not that big of a deal. But the more I thought about it the larger the underlying message became. I have been using Apple and Adobe products for years now. I happen to agree with Steve on this one – Flash is a resource hog and here we are in 2010 and this “issue” should have remedied long ago. Granted, Adobe creates beautiful software – I think it’s safe to say that we all rely, heavily, on the creative suite. It’s my livelihood, pure and simple. Is there room for improvement, yes. Would I like to see Flash on my Apple mobiles – absolutely. The point is software is no longer a “one platform, one size fits all” entity anymore. Six years ago, yes it was, desktops and some laptops ran Flash fine, mobile devices were infantile. Not anymore. Mobile devices have matured and we all know it. Perhaps Flash is the elephant in the room and someone had to have the balls to call Adobe on it. Flash could be ported to run on the iPhone OS – I have no doubt. But the cost? Terrible battery life. Maybe we should throw the battery manufacturers in the basket as well. The point of all of this is simple. Efficiency = Longevity = Great Experience. In the end this is not about Apple or Adobe or whoever – it’s about you and I, the end user.
